Williams lived from 1911 to 1983 and during that time he published many successful plays including The Glass Menagerie and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Williams did more than write plays, he wrote essays, short stories, and poetry as well. Williams had a very successful career and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame before he died. Tennessee William’s most successful work would have to be The Glass Menagerie which was published in 1944. Although published in the 40s, The Glass Menagerie took place during the 1930s; it was a time of war, baby boomers, and improvements in the workforce for women.
