Chapter 8 Training & Development Joe was working for a company who was facing an $800,000 annual loss, to date. The company, due to the nature of their product, was not global but rather regional in scope. Corporate had invested in 'Soft Skills' training in an attempt to help people get along. Recently, training was limited to legally required training (mostly in safety compliance and industry specific requirements). The bulk of the loss was due to product sales and pricing issues. Sales representatives were incentivized to sell more units, regardless of the profit margin. As a result, sales reps were undercutting pricing in order to 'make their numbers' look good and to secure a bonus. This had risen to the level that a recent shipment was sold, after transportation costs, for a net loss of $2,000. Blame was placed on the head of the sales team, who, was allowed to work from home (three states away from his team). He was terminated, but the issues did not cease. In fact, one of the more effective sales reps resigned her position for another job, stating she did not see that anything was going to change.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
