Week 1 main post Nursing Research and Evidenced-Based Practice When I was a new nurse, I asked a million questions, and the basis of each question was why? Why do we do the things that we do? More times than I can remember the nurses would say “I don’t know, we have always done it that way.” Never once did I hear a nurse say that based on evidenced-based practice it was the best route to take. Evidenced-based practice (EBP) is developed through nursing judgment, patient preferences, and the best evidence that improves patient care developed through research (Polit & Beck, 2017). Nursing research develops trustworthy evidence that influences our nursing practice, what we do and how we do it. Nursing practices change and evolve consistently because of evidenced-based practice. Recent Clinical Experience I have worked in residential chemical dependency with Mental Issues (MICD) for my company for six years. Over the years we have developed many ways to treat clients in withdrawal by using Clonidine, Valium, Phenobarbital, and Suboxone tapers. We have never been told why we chose to use the protocols we do or the medications. There has never been any demonstrated evidenced-based practice produced. We have heard that it meets Department of Health (DHS) and the Department of Health (DOH) requirements and we have received training to use them. But sadly, in my company, everything is handed down from the Chief Medical Officer, and we are simply told to implement it.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
