PROGRESS OF GAY PERSONS IN THE MILITARY 2 The progress of Gay Persons in the Military There has been a controversial fight for Gay rights in attempts to creating awareness for the same and as recently as 2010 the military policy did not allow gay people to be in the service. Today the issue of sexual orientation is no longer a cause for dismissal from the service after the Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act and the repeal by the Department of Defense to end discrimination in favor of this group (Center for American Progress, 2013). However, their arguments in relation to the 1982 military policy that viewed the presence of the aforesaid significantly influence the ability of the service to maintain morale, good order, and discipline.
