Walking for Cardio Jim and Alexis suggest walking as a great cardio workout for the beginner. Walking for wellness will help build endurance without overdoing it. Even though walking may require more time than other cardio workouts, it: is the safest for the body. has long term best results. is least stressful to joints. is convenient. can be done indoors and outdoors. Even poor form while walking can stress your body and minimize your results. You should: 1. breathe in comfortably and fully exhale. 2. keep an erect posture with your chin up. 3. focus straight ahead. 4. keep shoulders relaxed, pressed towards the waist. 5. freely swing arms; advanced walkers may bend at 90 degrees. 6. move hips forward and backward, not side to side. 7. press your navel toward your spine and tuck your hips to protect your lower back. 8. step down on the back of your heels and roll onto your toes.
