Yavetta Lord AA 3305 Group 3 Unfortunately, there isn’t an actual federal law that protects employees from discrimination based on weight. The perception tends to be that if you are overweight, you are lazy, can’t control yourself or simply just don’t care. And while weight discrimination may be unethical but in most American jurisdictions it is not illegal “Under federal discrimination laws, weight is not a protected class, which means that, for the most part, your boss can refuse to promote you, can harass you, and can fire you due to your weight.” (Ballman 2016) Even without a standard set in stone law that protects you from this kind of discrimination, you have several other ways that will give you some protection under the law if you are overweight. The Americans with Disabilities Act would be a huge asset when it comes to the discrimination of employees with disabilities. The ADA defines “disability” as: (A) a physical
