HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR AN INFORMATION SYSTEM 2 Hardware Requirements for an Information System The principal components of hardware requirements for an information system would be the processor, main memory, input devices, output devices, and secondary storage. When these hardware components work together they can read and store programs and various types of data, as well as run programs by applying their instructions to the data and then reporting the results ("Information Systems Hardware", n.d.). Central Processing Unit The Central Processing Units (CPU), also known as a computer, is the most important hardware component of a computer system. The computer not only processes data it also stores data. The “processor part” of the CPU is usually a silicon chip that can manage the data such as performing mathematical functions as well as being able to compare text (Bagranoff, Simkin, & Norman, 2010, Chapter 2 Information Technology and AISs). Input Devices An input device is used to enter data as well as instructions into a computer system directly through an input device such as a scanner, keyboard, MICR reader, mouse, or a touch screen. A scanner is an i nput device that enters an image of documents or photographs into the computer memory.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
