Interview Essay 2 Introduction Hinduism believes in an ultimate creator, Brahma. It is the spirit of Brahma that lives inside all living things, this is the individual soul, Atman. Atman is the idea that there is an unchanging eternal soul or identity inside each of us. [Bar18]. “According to Hindu tradition, rebirth is understood to involve a “permanent” soul, a conscious entity which goes from one body to another. According to this theory, the soul lives in one body and at death, the soul leaves that body off and goes on to assume another body.” [Anj13] My interview is with a co-worker who was born and raised in India as a Hindu. He had an arranged marriage and 2 young girls. Both him and his wife are nurses. My interviewee admits to being affected by the western culture and the many pleasures it has to offer. Material Expressions There are many religious places with spectacular architecture Temples have been created to symbolically bring people and Gods closer together. Just as in other religions places of worship are an important part of the Hindu culture. Hindus use incense, sandalwood, certain flowers, herbs, trees and plants.
