History Notes 8/25/16 What caused the civil war o religion can’t compromise with sin o A million people died because of a political failure Fort Sumter o Firing upon fort Sumter was a civil crime o Nobody thought the war wouldn’t last more than a few days o Boreguard a confederate army and assaulted fort Sumter o Abraham Lincon showd empathy for his solder o Jefferson Davis was a patrician o The unions resources was better off than the confederacy aside from cotton o Phil Scott said the south has a terrible industrial industry so he decided to block them off from resources that they need and can’t replace. 1830 slavery was banned from the British empire The union navy blockades the south o David G Farragut seized New Orleans in April 29, 1862 o The union navy also had a very developed railroad system compared to the south The battle of first bull run o July 21, 1861 In the beginning of the civil war the south had the advantage because of culture by hunting and being able to have lots of organization Military teck has changed but most of the tactics have stayed the same George McClellen “little mac” Is a supurb trainer and officer o He has a blind spot, he doesn’t like to engage the enemy because he always felt that the enemy has more soldgers than him o Lincon gets irritated with him and sometimes asked him if he could borrow his army Ulises s grant o Was the best rider in the union o He was a terrible businessman because he was too trusting o He was put in charge of buying army supplies o Grant was a general who would pay the butchers bill and he was an amazing general
