Torture While the idea of torture is grotesque to some, others may see it as a useful tactic of gaining necessary information. Torture has been used all over the world for centuries for various reasons. In modern times, reasons for torture contrast human rights. The first part of this work will analyze the rhetorical strategies that were utilized in the articles “The Case Against Torture” by Alisa Solomon, and “The Case for Torture” written by Michael Levin. In the subsequent part of the essay, I will discuss my personal opinion of torture and how one of these articles in particular changed it. In her article, “The Case Against Torture” Solomon establishes her argument against torture. She adamantly believes that there is no circumstance in which torture is permissible, and that torturing anyone is a violation of their fundamental human rights. Solomon uses the rhetorical strategy logos, or, appeal to logic and pathos, appeal to ethics, to persuade readers that torture is futile. Solomon uses
