The direct object receives the action of the verb or is most directly affected by the verb. Ex. I work in the afternoon. (“I” is the subject.) I call Jorge every afternoon. (“I” is still the subject, but Jorge is the direct object.) We visit my mother every Sunday. (“We is the subject, but our mother is affected by the main verb and is the direct object.)
