Born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia from a middle-class family, Martin Luther King, Jr. graduated successfully from Morehouse College (1948), Crozer Theology Seminary (1951), and Boston University (1955) where he attained his Ph.D. Being the son of the priest of Ebenezer Church; he was ordained and became a minister of a church in Montgomery, Ala (Cone 1). King led the African-American boycott of 1955 of segregated bus lines, and in 1956 he gained prestige and a significant victory as human-rights’ leader when the Montgomery vehicles began to run their activities on a desegregated basis. He told protestors, “We are not wrong in what we are doing (Cone 3).” King’s philosophy of nonviolent activism led to his apprehension on many occasions, and his advocacy had mixes success that brought him global attention, including the 1963 March on Washington.
