Aqueous Solutions - a liquid preparation of one or more soluble chemical substances, which are usually dissolved in water - Ex. Saline Solution, Hydrogen Peroxide, Alcohol, Syrup a. Waters - a liquid form that is most common aqueous vehicle used in pharmaceuticals that present as an excipient, or used for reconstitution of products, during synthesis, production of finished product, cleaning agent for rinsing vessels, equipment and primary packing materials - Ex. Rainwater, Ground Water, Distilled Water, Water for Injection, Sterile Water for Injection b. Aromatic Waters - a clear, saturated aqueous solutions of volatile oils or other aromatic or volatile substances - 2 Components include: Volatile Oils and Water - Ex. Peppermint Water, Cinnamon Water c. Aqueous Acids - electrolytes; acids form aqueous solutions with a sour taste - Ex. Acetic Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Sulfuric Acid d. Diluted Acids - acid which contains low percentage of acid in the aqueous solution - Ex. Vinegar (Acetic Acid) e. Solution - a liquid mixture that is formed when solutes get dissolved in a solvent - Ex. Acetates, Syrups such as Sucrose and Glucose f. Douches - is a device used to introduce a stream of water into the body for medical or hygienic reasons, or the stream of water itself - Ex. showering or spraying with water; a syringe with nozzles used to flush and clean the vagina g. Enemas - liquid injected into the rectum; may be used for therapeutic (such as to stimulate evacuation of the bowels or heal inflammation of colon called colitis) or diagnostic (such as imaging studies of the gastrointestinal tract - barium enema) purposes - Ex. Monobasic Sodium Phosphate, Dibasic Sodium Phosphate h. Gargles - used in treating the mucous membrane of the pharynx and tonsils - Ex. Soothing Gargles, Astringent Gargles i. Mouthwash - usually antiseptic liquid preparation for cleaning the mouth and teeth or freshening the breath - Ex. Listerine, Bactidol j. Juices - are the liquid preparation containing medicament meant for oral cavity k. Nasal Solution - are used to deliver medications locally in the nasal cavities or systemically l. Otic Solution - medicine compounded and dispensed for instillation into the ear - Ex. Cortisporin Otis Solution 2. Sweet or Other Viscid Aqueous Solution a. Syrups - fine medicinal (bulk) powders intended to be dusted on the skin by means of sifter-top container - Ex. Paracetamol, LAgundi b. Honey - sweet fluid made by honeybees using the nectar of flowering plants - Ex. Alfalfa Honey, Avocado Honey c. Mucilage
