LABORS UNIONS: PROS AND CONS 2 Abstract The labor unions and employers started on opposites ends of the spectrum and have never come to the point of understanding the other group’s views. Employers have fought and killed to keep their cost down and monetary returns high. Labor unions fought and killed to reduce the growing gaps between trade workers and management. In hindsight, both sides seem to have goals and objectives which would cost them essential support elements. As time and criminal cases increase, labor unions have themselves at a crossroads. Labor unions memberships have declined as more and more states become “right to work,” eliminating the need to get into a union in order to work and pay dues for the same benefits as members. Technology has always been a taboo for labor unions; however, to survive in the market today, unions have started to embrace those one “bad words” of automated and technology, as the millennials save them from the brink of demise.
LABORS UNIONS: PROS AND CONS 3 Labor Unions: Pros and Cons Labor unions have raged ongoing battle with employers on workers needs and rights since the Industrial Revolution. Labor unions looked to better the overall gaps between workers and companies through various collective bargaining negotiation. However, the structures that govern these negotiations, shut down those negotiations which affect others indirectly such strikes at airports stops or delays flights. The collective bargaining process, helps labor unions negotiate wages, working conditions, and benefits for workers which have been spread across other industries. However, in doing so, has it improved or hurt workers, especially with the changes to and in the workforce. Let us start with looking at the modern work layout; the 40-hour work week as well as 8-hour days, would not have been possible if it had not been for labor unions[Uni18]. While there have been slogans with the claim “thank the union for giving you the weekend;” today, many do not see the need for them[Jos18]. Unions have created more separation within the companies than unifying them[Joe15]. Some people believe that the labor unions are no longer necessary for employees to get justice; however, the millennial are starting to give them new light and path for the future. Literature Review Employers and labor unions have raged a battle for years over the rights of workers and the conditions in which they work. It has come as not surprised that it would spill over into the communities and affect the daily lives of children as well. As labor unions memberships continue to decline, a raising question emerges, on the importance of unions and growth for the future.
LABORS UNIONS: PROS AND CONS 4 In reading over all the articles, individuals can see each sides viewpoint which makes it more difficult current benefits of labor unions. Unquestionable accomplishments of the labor union, their future lay in changing old mindsets.
