Unit 7: Business Plan – Bottled Water in Mexico
“Mexican’s average 67.3 gallons of bottled water per capita yearly, making them the largest
consumer of bottled water in the world, according to the International Bottled Water Association.”
(Alonso, 2015) They are a world leader in bottled water per capita consumption because the country has
struggled to provide safe distribution of drinking water to its citizens. This has created a bottled water
boom that is currently growing in the country as its citizens don’t feel that it’s municipalities will ever
provide them clean tap water. In Mexico alone, about 73% of its population relies on bottled water as the
main source of drinking water.
I plan on capturing at least 5% of this market even though large international companies have
flooded the market with their brands and smaller boutiques and local shops have been growing and cater
to neighborhoods. Where I want to influence is right in the middle and market the product as a mid-level
company who cares like a local boutique with the distribution capabilities of a larger multi-national
