EXPLAINING ADDITIVE AND MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSESTRAVIS KOCI

ADDITIVE INVERSE PROPERTY:•The additive inverse of a number is the same number with the opposite sign. When adding a number to its additive inverse, the sum will always be “0”. This is the additive inverse property.

ADDITIVE INVERSE EXAMPLES•Example 1: -23 + 23 = 0•Example 2: 11 + (-11) = 0•Example 3: -17 + 17 = 0•Example 4: 8 + (-8) = 0•Example 5: -4 + 4 = 0

MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSE PROPERTY:•When you multiply a number by its multiplicative inverse, the sum will always be “1”. This is the multiplicative inverse property. To find the multiplicative inverse of any number, just flip it over.

MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSE EXAMPLES•Example 1: 13 * 1/13 = 1•Example 2: 24 * 1/24 = 1•Example 3: 6 * 1/6 = 1•Example 4: 3 * 1/3 = 1•Example 5: 18 * 1/18 = 1
