Chapter 4 – Case Study Oprah Winfrey: Her Ability to Communicate, Connect and Influence Others Please read Chapter 4's Case Study on pages 126-127 and answer the following questions: Assess the how well Oprah’s communication and interpersonal skills have affected her career as a media mogul. Her amazing interpersonal skills are what formed her career. She was so charismatic and the perfect conversationalist, everyone wanted to talk with Oprah. Her ability to elaborate on any topic with any person and make it feel meaningful helped her build such a strong following that they would listen to/do/buy anything she says. The book states that fans specifically loved how sympathetic, empathetic ,and enlightening she is. Would you agree with the statement that Oprah’s decision to form her own production studio (Harpo) and take over ownership and production of the Oprah Winfrey Show was about creating a different organizational structure for herself and the show? Explain. This may be my inner Oprah fan talking but I believe that she built her own production company for us, her fans. She knows who she is and what her influence is so why would she not find a way to build herself an empire, within which she could create other ways to connect with/influence her following. She
