May 1 Danielle May Ms. Matresse Rhetoric 105 15 October 2016 Annotated Bibliography on the Effect of Technology on Child Development Rowan, Cris. “10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12” The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, Inc., 21 Dec. 2015, - banned_b_4899218.html . Accessed 29 Sep. 2016. This article begins with The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Canadian Society of Pediatrics recommended restriction of technology for different age groups and a plea for parents to follow this. The author Cris Rowan is a Pediatric occupational therapist. This article is based solely on facts and statistics which gives gives it a strong argument with lots of evidence, but it is also completely one sided. The articles lists out many health problems that can result from technology use. Some of these are delayed development, obesity, depression, addiction and mental illness.I did not realize until reading the Huffington Post’s article the effects technology can have on people, and I think this will add some shocking information to my paper. I want my paper to give examples of both positive and negative effects on technology, so this article with give great examples to the negative side. This article also relates to two of my other resources, 3 ways technology affects your eyes by Amanda Chan, and eleven pros and cons of technology by Health Research Funding. These three articles talk about the downsides of technology use. Quotes:

May 2 “75% of children aged 9 and 10 years are sleep deprived to the extent that their grades are detrimentally impacted.” This quote is good evidence for the negative side of technology use. “Technology use restricts movement, which can result in delayed development .” This quote is good evidence for the negative side of technology use. “Technology overuse is implicated as a causal factor in rising rates of child depression, anxiety, attachment disorder, attention deficit, autism, bipolar disorder, psychosis and problematic child behavior.” This quote is good evidence for the negative side of technology use. “As parents attach more and more to technology, they are detaching from their children”. This quote is good evidence for the negative side of technology use. Egbert, Megan. “10 REASONS WHY I WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE MY CHILDREN HANDHELD DEVICES.” HipMomBrarian. Wordpress.com, 11 Mar. 2014, - children-handheld-devices/ . Accessed 29 Sep. 2016. This article is by a blogger mom. I know we're supposed to stay away from blogs, but I want the opinions of a parent. She gave some ideas I liked and that were also from parent’s perspective. Although most of her evidence was opinion based, she brought up some good points. Emotion adds to an argument; one based solely on statistics can be boring and lack inspiration. This article
