The nursing profession has always driven by the care that can be given to individuals who need it the most. Some traditions are tried and true, however there is some aspects that continue to change and morph the way that medical providers see and treat patients. Evidence based practice helps drive that care towards the greater good of the general population’s health. Improving care is one of the biggest priorities of all departments across the medical field. For my topic I chose how emergency department (ED) nurses see and assess chest pain as it is presented in the ED. From determining if the patient is currently having a myocardial infarction (MI) or simple indigestion, nursing staff is at the front lines of cardiac preservation. My PICOT is as follows: PICOT. In the patient with chest pain, what is the effect of ECG testing (nursing protocol) compared to routine care on admission verses discharge times over the 6 hour course of medical evaluation in the emergency department? When I started to look for information I was very overwhelmed with the outcome of articles that I was finding. The search terms that were utilized included; chest pain, medication management, heart attack, heart disease and prevention of heart disease. The articles that I found
