3-4-1 Short Answer: Prior Knowledge and Assumptions Student: Kerri Price Date: 3/25/18 Prior to selecting my news story, “Brain Injury May Boost Risk of Alzheimer’s Earlier in Life”, published in Science Daily, I had prior knowledge of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, but little knowledge of the actual causes of the disease. For example, I know from my experience with family members who have had Alzheimer’s that the disease robs the individual of their short-term memories first. They struggle to remember experiences and conversations they have recently had. I have personally witnessed how frustrating that is for both the patient and their loved ones. As the disease progresses, I have seen how it causes confusion, changes in mood and personality, often causing the patient to become combative, angry and depressed. Eventually, their long-term memories are compromised, causing the patient to not recognize their loved ones like spouses, children, and other family members and friends.
