Sundus Ahmed SOC 101 Professor. Edwards 28 February 2019 Study Guide 1. What is the difference between empirical , sociological evidence and (personal) opinion ? Empirical Evidence is the information that is being received by the means of senses, by observation, and documentation of different pattern and behavior through experimentation. When we evaluate a personal opinion, we automatically tend to engage in different regions of the brain, which usually require social integration and bonding. 2. How is an orange sociological ? What kinds of social stories does an orange tell? The name of the orange is formed by the people. If everyone called an orange as a cat, it is going to be called a cat. 3. What is the difference between the textbook’s definition of society and Dr. Edwards’ definition from lecture? In the textbook, sociology is defined as the study of groups and group interactions, society and social interactions, from small and personal groups to very large group. Dr. Edwards defined sociology from lecture as everything around us including food and climate 4. Why does Dr. Edwards stress the word “ organization ” so much in defining society ? Organization is basically taken as a planned action by us human beings, that we use to construct and compile. Sociology distinguishes that term to planned formal and unplanned informal organizations. It can be defined in the elements that are a part of it, the communication within society. We bring in social organization because it is a pattern of different relationships made among individuals and “society”.

5. How do personal troubles relate to public issues (Mills)? Personal troubles occur on the individual level while publics issues by Mills was to transcend the individual and are collective interests or values that felt to be threatened. Examples such as employment come to this because one can become unemployed for example on such factors like skills, low self-esteem, decision making, laziness, etc. It is a problem that one can have inside him/her self if one person is unemployed among billions of individuals within a nation. (Situations normally in your ability to be able to control) * 6. Give a specific example of the relationship between biography and history (Mills).
