New York: Routledge. Establishment and strengthening of apartheid. This happened in 1948 when the National Party (NP), was elected to power. NP established apartheid as a means to implement total racial separation that was so strong to separate South African races in all aspects of life including social, political and economic aspects. For apartheid to remain stronger, legislations were made utilizing the majority rule: to prevent interracial marriage, separation of schools and social amenities and lastly to restrict participation of colored people in political matters like elections.
