Urbanization process is motivated by both local and global economic factors. As more individuals move to cities, it results in urban growth. For instance, the tremendous growth of Chicago and Mumbai in the late 19 th century was impacted by rural-urban migration. Most nations did not have a majority of its citizens living in urban cities until after 1900 which led to the industrial revolution in Britain. The revolution was driven by factors like labor force and economic benefits. After the industrial revolution in Britain, other nations followed soon after. In 1920, the United States also became primarily urban with the impact of the industrial revolution in Britain. Most of the Asian countries did not reach urbanization until after 1945. Urbanization links positively with industrialization offering sufficient employment opportunities arising from manufacturing. Individuals will move from rural areas to urban centers in pursuit of higher economic rewards hence research suggesting that the percentage of people living in cities may rise to 60% by the year 2030 as shown in the figure below.
