Living a healthy life in developed countries means that people go to hospitals or clinics for their physical if they are not ill, or seek healthcare professionals such as MD, PA, or CRNP in the case of illnesses. For instance, prescription and non-prescription drugs are at an accelerated pace in the United States of America. 48.7% of individuals took at least one prescription drug in the last 30 days (Arcangelo & Peterson, p.8, 2013). When professional prescribers make a diagnostic of a disease, they are in the obligation of writing prescriptions. While doing so, unintended mistakes can occur. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 1999 released “To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System,” which discussed the significant number of non-intentional outcomes due to medication errors. The purpose of this assignment is to elucidate the ethical and legal implications of reporting and not reporting prescribing errors, explain what I will do, and bring into light prescription writing process as well as strategies to decrease the mistakes.Adverse drugs are becoming an increasing problem in both inpatient and outpatient settings (Arcangelo & Peterson, p.8, 2013).Ethical and legal implications of disclosure or nondisclosure“Most medication errors occur during prescribing and administration at rates of 39% and 38%, respectively Intravenous (IV) medication administration has a higher risk and severity of errors than other routes of administration (Munro, 2017)”.
