Childhood obesity as well as ADHD has been blamed on artificial additives. Choose one of these issues and present an argument either supporting or opposing these claims. Although there is no proven evidence of artificial additives being the cause of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), some studies suggest that artificial additives may contribute to ADHD symptoms. A common belief among society is that sugar and caffeine contribute to a child’s hyperactivity, and increase symptoms of those with ADHD. However, according to a study conducted by Harvard University, in which 35 parents were told that their children would be consuming large amounts of sugar or aspartame, an artificial sweetener. In reality, all of the children were given aspartame. Among the parents who believed their children were given real sugar reported that their children’s behavior became significantly more hyperactive afterwards, whereas those who believed their children had artificial sweetener reported no noticeable differences.
