4.03 Urbanization Ciara Goins April 3, 2019 Lydia Goodrum Purpose: The objective of this lab is to learn to describe resources and environmental problems faced by urban areas, evaluate a sustainable urban environment, and examine the process of ecological land-use planning. In this simulation, we analyze habitat loss factor, habitat loss rate, and food production variation. We use the animal’s motivation- eating and reproduction- to determine how these factors have an effect on their population size. Data and Observations: Initial Graph Prediction 1: If we increase the habitat loss factor, the population will decrease. Table 1: Habitat Loss Factor and Animal Population Measure d at 5000 Males Females Total Population Estimated Maximum Trial 1 05 05 10 400 Trial 2 245 245 290 500 Trial 3 280 320 600 780
The habitat loss factor in this trial is the independent variable. The total population, estimated maximum, and number of males and females are all dependent variables. The control variables are the time limit (5000), loss time (10), and variation (0). My hypothesis was incorrect. As the habitat loss factor was increased, so did the population. Prediction 2: If we increase the habitat loss time, the population will decrease. Table 2: Rate of Habitat Loss and Animal Population Measure d at 5000 Males Females Total Population Estimated Maximum Trial 1 0 0 0 250 Trial 2 120 150 270 500 Trial 3 280 320 600 780 The rate of habitat loss is the independent variable in this trail. The animal population is the

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
