Lab 6 Report_ Owens_1 Liz Owens BCH 380_007 Lab 6 Report Exploring Standard Curves using Biuret and Bio-Rad Assay Introduction The purpose of lab 6: standard curves, was to use Biuret and Bio-Rad Protein assay to determine a standard curve for various solutions. Then, this curve was utilized to compare an unknown protein mixture to identify the concentration using its absorption obtained from the spectrophotometer. A standard curve, as defined in the lab manual, will relate the properties of an unknown compound to the properties of a known compound. Methods Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. (2019). Experiment 6: Standard Curves. Biochemistry 380 Laboratory Manual Spring 2019 (pp. 49-56). Bozeman, MT: Montana State University. Changes to methods: Part II: Bio-Rad protein assay. Ran out of 1mg/mL stock protein solution, substituted instead, a 2mg/mL stock protein solution. Results Part I: Table 1: The absorbance and concentration values obtained from C1V1=C2V2 and the spectrophotometer. Unknown calculated by using the standard curve.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
