Fermentation Lab Homemade Ginger ale (if you don't like ginger ale you can make root beer instead) Brenna Ferrell For this experiment you will need: 2 liter pop bottle 1 - cup of white sugar 1/4 teaspoon of regular baking yeast 2 tablespoons of fresh ground ginger root (ginger root is available in most grocery stores, you just need a piece about 2 inches long) 1 lemon Instructions: put the sugar and yeast in the empty pop bottle and shake to mix well grate the ginger root and put 1 1/2-2 tblsp in the pop bottle juice the lemon and add the juice to the bottle fill the bottle almost to the top with tap water (leave about 3 inches of space) shake very well put the bottle on the counter for 24 hrs, or until the bottle feels hard when you squeeze it Refrigerate until cold, then try it! (you can strain out the ginger) Homemade Root Beer (optional) Procedure: 1. Dissolve 1/8 teaspoon of yeast in ½ cup of very warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes. (Being in warm water
