Sheida Eslami BS 111L Sec. 024 Due: Jan 25 th , 2008 Rachel Aikman Menopausal Therapy’s Risk of Breast Cancer The Journal Article “Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Risk of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer shows one study of many looking into the effects different hormone therapies have on women; including unopposed menopausal estrogen therapy (ET) which is related to the risk of estrogen being combine with progestogen (EPT). Gathered from the 12 articles I found, EPT is more commonly used with women who have not undergone a hysterectomy. Their main goal was to evaluate the independent effects of ET and EPT, taking into consideration all varieties in condition of the women being tested. The case studies consisted of female residents of an area of Washington, 35 to 74 years of age, who were diagnosed with a primary invasive or a borderline epithelial

The main variable in this study was the condition and back round of the women; whether or not they had been taking ET for long period of time, abruptly stopped after >5 years, or if they possessed a uterus, All these things played a factor in this complex study. Overall, women who had used only ET had a slightly increased risk, and women who had used only EPT had a slightly reduced risk of epithelial ovarian cancer. All in all, the risk increased with the duration of ET use increasing. Another question to be pondered and maybe even researched is, what would be the risk factors of a women using EPT having experienced a hysterectomy?...
