MODERN LANGUAGE FINAL2The Betrothed by Alessandro ManzoniThe 19th-century Italian literature followed the themes of patriotism and romanticism. The most well-known writer, Alessandro Manzoni, expressed similar themes in his famous work of The Betrothed. Collected as the greatest novel of the Italian literature, The Betrothed displays a startling influence of Walter Scott. However, it does add serene realism to the profound formula of Scott Walters’ writings. The first chapter on the novels places a primary focus on the geological setting of the place. The places described in the first and the concluding chapters of the novel are an exact depiction of the places in the 17thcentury, the era in which the novel is based.The novel starts which an explanation of an un-named village in which the main characters and introduced. Furthermore, the critical conditions of Milam during the oppressive Spanish and Austrian dominancy rule portray anexistential role in the events of the entire novel.
