I read the article, “A neglected nexus: Human rights and public perceptions”.They examined whether the public’s human rights perceptions are influenced by violence levels and human rights organizational activities at the state level. Additionally, they assessed whether the public’s human rights perceptions are related to trust in domestic institutions and security forces and whether sharing partisan ties with the current administration is a contributing factor. Finally, they assess how education levels moderate human rights perceptions. Their results show that human rights perceptions are linked to both state-level and individual-level factors. They discuss why human rights matter, they also identify a set of state- and individual- level factors likely to influence citizens’ perceptions of human rights. They found that recent research suggests that public opinion on human rights can have implications for electoral politics, military strategy, and consumer behavior.
