1. Which seismic body wave travels through liquids? P wave 2. Sketch or describe reflection and refraction of seismic waves (Ch 12.15) 3. Explain how we use seismic waves to infer the diameter of the core and to show that the outer core is molten (Ch 12.15) Waves can be blocked by the Earth’s core and creates a shadow you can use to measure the diameter of the core. 4. How do we know that there is a solid inner core? Basically using the knowledge we know of p and s waves, they can measure and follow the waves. The s waves being not capable of traveling through liquids gets converted to p waves on the outer part of the core, when it passes into the inner core it is converted back into s waves, therefore it is solid--since they cant travel through liquids. 5. Describe the 2 different methods to divide up the interior of the earth. Describe the major layers of Earth using both of these methods. (Ch 1.3) Lithosphere-(crust and upermost mantle form an upper, rigid level) and

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
