This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

1. Describe the process of changing sediment into a clastic sedimentary rock. Pieces of rock are loosened by weathering, then transported to some depression where sediment is trapped. If buried deeply, it becomes compacted and cemented, forming sedimentary rock. 2. Describe the classification of common clastic sedimentary rocks. Classification is done according to size of the sediments that make up the rock, gravel sized, sand sized, and mud sized clasts Clastic: your basic sedimentary rock Chemical: many of these form when standing water evaporates, leaving dissolved minerals behind. Organic: any accumulation of sedimentary debris caused by organic processes. 3. Describe how clast transport affects the size, shape, and sorting of clasts Sorting indicates the constancy of environmental energy..well sorted means uniform energy, poorly sorted means variable energy During transport, the tumbling, collisions and abrasions may reduce clast size, increase roundness and sort the clasts by size.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
