Lab Report 3: Breathing and Heart Rate iWorx. Nicolás Vivas Cerezo Introduction: The goal of this lab was to study the relation between heart beat and breath using iWorx. In exercise 1, we used a spirometer that was joined to the iWorx. The purpose of this exercise is to compare the volume of the heart at rest (tidal volume). For this, one member of our group was measured breathing, and we took the measurements of three different breaths. We also measure the heart rate to study the relation between the respiratory rate and the cardiovascular system. In exercise 2 we study how apnea affects the heart rate, for this, the member that was tested before, had to hold his breath for some seconds. In this case we measured the breath just after apnea occurs and also the ones after. We also measure the heart rate during apnea to study what physiological response the body may have when as it begins to realize breathing has stopped temporarily and what reactions/countermeasures it may take.
