Name / Student ID: ______________________ GROUP #:__________________ .BE Quiz: The Social You The goal of last week’s class was to persuade you that the <1>__________ rational choice model was deeply flawed. Joe argued that the <2>__________ RCM offers a more realistic starting point because it accepts that not all goals and motivations are narrowly selfish and materialistic . We started with the <3>__________ game, in which an allocator is given a certain amount of money and makes an offer to split it with another person. The second person, the receiver , accepts or rejects the offer. According to the self- interest RCM, the receiver should accept any positive offer . However, experimental results show that receivers routinely reject offers that seem ‘insultingly’ low. We also saw that allocators usually do not give insultingly low offers. Why not? Part of the reason is surely that they do not want their offer to be rejected. However, this is not the only reason: Even in the <4> __________ game, in which the receiver must simply accept any offer made by the allocator, allocators still offer some money to the receiver, even though they do not have to. All of these results suggest that humans are motivated by fairness and social norms – and not just material self- interest .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
