Nationalism and Identity Assignment Farrah, Breanna and Priththa The first source provided, shows an image of “The Tennis Court Oath” and how it was created because they believed that sovereignty of the people did not consist of the King, but in the people themselves and their representatives. When people took the Tennis Court Oath, they were committing to complete the constitution of France, and the beginning of the French Revolution in 1798. This is a good example of nationalism because the people of France cared for the good of their country. As you can see in the image presented, for source one shows everyone standing up, showing their own empowerment against the monarchy. In the late 1700’s France did not have good building blocks of a civic nation, for example the people did not have an opinion on the government, it was only the high class that got to have a voice, as seen in the second source of the “ building blocks of a civic nation”.
