PRESIDENT WILLIAM MCKINLEY’S ASSASSINATION 2 President William McKinley’s Assassination How President William McKinley’s Assassination Lead To Modern Secret Service In 1901 On 6th September 1901, President William McKinley’s was seen shaking hands at pan American Exhibition in the New York. Shortly then a 28-year-old boy by the name Leon walked close to him and fired two shots to him ( Federman, 2017) . The president slowly went on his toes and his last words were “be careful how you tell my wife”, then he collapsed. Leon attempted to fire the third shot but he was wrestled by the president’s guards. William told his guards not to hurt him. He was rushed to the hospital, after six days he seemed to recover but he could not sustain the injuries, he later died from gangrene and blood poisoning on 14th of the same month.
