Specific Purpose: To tell a real life story in where a lesson was learned Central Idea: How a family member’s close call to death gave me determination INTRODUCTION Attention Getter: Every nine minutes a person dies of blood cancer in the U.S. alone Thesis Statement: When my uncle Clemente was diagnosed with leukemia, he was already preparing his funeral. EXPOSITION (should introduce characters, the setting, time of day/of year): My uncle Clemente and then the rest of the family. This happened between November 17 2014 through June 2015. TRANSITION: INITIAL RUB (this should be the initial conflict of the story, that sets the story in motion): At a family function, we noticed that my uncles left leg was getting really swollen; he had mentioned that he got injured earlier that day at work. He does landscaping and mentioned that he dropped the weed wacker on his foot as he was unloading it from the truck. After a few hours and the swelling didn’t go down, my uncle is really stubborn and doesn’t like doctors, but we finally convinced him to go to the E.R..
