11/5: Some definitions: Political culture is a pattern of shared values, moral norms, beliefs, expectations, and attitude that relate to politics and its social context Every society has a dominant political culture and most have one or more subcultures Political socialization is the process in which individuals learn about politics and the political culture of their society - agents of socialization Elements of Political Culture Cognitions – empirical beliefs 11/7: Political economy is the study of the relationship between economics and politics Resource allocation Political economy also denotes economic approaches to the study of politics. Concepts Gross National Product - the amount of good and services produced by a country during a specific time period. Wealth made outside of the US Gross Domestic Product – the total output of goods and services of a country’s domestic economy. Wealth made inside the US Economic Growth – the increase in a country’s GNP/GDP over a specific period of time Recession : period of negative economic growth
