Julius Caesar A proud Roman leads himself to a violent and bloody end within Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. This man is Julius Caesar, whose pride creates problems including poor judgement in war, strain of friendship, and also his own murder. He kills Pompey and his sons for means other than Rome's well being which upsets many a people. Brutus disagrees with the widespread Roman opinion that Caesar has shown to be a good choice for a ruler, but he must consider their friendship before he chooses sides: Rome or Caesar? At the Senate House, when asked to remove the banishment he placed on Cimber beforehand, Caesar is too proud to reconsider his judgement. Thus, the conspirators follow out their plan and stab him to death. In the beginning of the play, Caesar has just returned victorious in defeating Pompey who was once loved as a hero to Rome. He killed him not for the good of Rome, but merely due to his own ego; without
