Little is known about incidents of technical disasters, this is because private and public firms and agencies try to protect their businesses and reputation from news of software and hardware failures which might harm them even more. Although that is the case, real life examples of the disasters caused by the failure of hardware and software happen everyday and on many different scales. One of the relatively recent disasters caused by software failure due to a very simple error is NASA's loss of a Mars explorer in 1999; CNN's website reported that "NASA lost a $125 million Mars orbiter because one engineering team used metric units while another used...
