Unformatted text preview: Lauren Martino, period 5 Science Autobiography Project: So in Connecticut I took science since the third grade, because that’s the grade that everyone in my district starts to take a science course. We learned/ focused on two topics that year. Those topics were water absorption & rocks. Since breaking down rocks isn’t an appropriate lab for 3 graders we only did the one lab on water absorption. We took variety of paper towels and napkin brands and we poured 30 ml of water on each one. If the napkin or paper towel didn’t rip open then we would keep adding 10 ml until it would tear. We recorded our results and then told our parents t always purchase that brand. In the fourth grade we worked with batteries and light bulbs. We would create different ways for the battery to turn on the light bulb but we crossed wires into different objects such as fruits and metals. In the fifth grade we lined up mirrors and turned on a red light to see how many ways we could reflect light on the mirrors and how the light formed angles. In the sixth grade we took food die and displayed cross contamination in “sepup” plastic trays, we also learned about the periodic table briefly and we also created different models of things using recycled goods. In the seventh grade we learned about how genes pass on and genetics. We also were doing word problems and identifying independent, dependent, constant, and control variables. Last year in eighth grade we learned about different ways to preserve electricity usage in the house, we learned about absorption and reflection. That white reflects and black absorbs. We learned about decibels and that concerts and different events can actually cause irritation to your ear from how loud it is. We learned about how the hottest rays that hit us are before and after the ultraviolet rays. We learned about filters to but on a box with holes in it and which ones would go through and why. We learned about planets and abbreviations that helped us memorize the order. We learned how to identify if something was off about a picture drawn of the solar system. We did an egg drop with a partner and sadly ours didn’t work because it wasn’t sealed tight enough. We learned about 3 of newton’s laws and how they work. I’ve had success almost every activity in science that I’ve performed, because I am very good at following procedure. The only thing that I’ve failed in science at is wen I have to build a model and there is no direction what so ever. I like science because sometimes there is direction and the labs are cool. Also, when there is not direction we can always laugh about our failures and think and correct our mistakes. ~I hope you liked my paper! ...
