1 Online Game Streaming The advent of mobile gaming resulted in major changes in the gaming industry. Many gaming companies believe that video games is a viable investment that can increase their revenue stream. Recently, game streaming has gained popularity. Television and movie industry is moving towards using cloud services. Major companies such as Netflix are the leading players in online streaming services. However, video game companies are still hesitant in moving towards this trend. Recent steps by big companies to use cloud computing services proves that there are more changes on the way. Cloud-based video games work in a similar way as television streaming technology. All the computing processes involved in streaming games are performed at the data center. Games are streamed using high-speed internet connectivity, which facilitates feedback one the screen of a television, computer, or any other supportive device. Streaming is the current trend, and technology experts believe that game streaming will change the gaming industry. Unlike the television and movies streaming, cloud-based gaming is complicated and requires high-speed input processing. When multiple players are involved, the server hosting the game need to stream back the results to all players simultaneously. Hence, gaming companies have invested in infrastructure to deliver instant and better gaming experiences to players. The report is important in analyzing why technology giants are cautious in investing in this modern technology. The report will also analyze where this technology will head, and how game streaming is likely to impact on current industry landscape.

2 The evolution of Online Game Streaming The idea of the streaming games is not a new concept; one of these similar technologies was launched way back in 2010 by OnLive. Users streamed high-end games using console computer-based applications. However, the process was not effective due to lags (Edge 2013). The introduction of Netflix, a video streaming service revolutionized the television industry. Video streaming services offered live television movies and other television shows. The same could be applied for games. Players could play any game instantly without downloading, but for a monthly fee (Edge 2013) . However, streaming games requires a different process. Video streaming uses a one ways system, from the server to the television. However, game streaming is a two-way process. When the players press the play button, the signal travels thousands of miles to the server. The feedback is to be relayed from the server back to the television screen. Any lag during the process of streaming would result in failure to display the required content (Edge 2013). The major challenge is the distance of the player to the server and the infrastructure required to make the process complete.
