Reflective Journal Template – Topic Reflection Topic: Public Health What were the key points of contention on this topic? Supporters of mandatory HIV/AIDS testing believe it will reduce the rising population of affected citizens in countries such as Africa, where the epidemic is ravenous. Mandatory testing will ensure safety for society and will promote conscious efforts to practice safe sex. Arguments against mandatory HIV/AIDS testing include risks of marginalizing certain demographics including women and lower income individuals. Additionally, it violates an individual’s right to privacy and autonomy. What side of the argument (stance) do you take on this topic? I believe there are better ways to reduce the number of those affected by HIV/AIDS. For one, in many schools, classes such as sexual education have been removed from the curriculum leaving some pubescent teenagers to seek alternative sources of reference.
