Topics include molecules oflife, cell structure and function, genetics, biotechnology and evolution. In addition, this courseexamines the diversity of life including plants and animals with an emphasis on humans and theirimportance in ecosystems. Course meets UC/CSU GE requirement of natural science with a lab.Student Learning Outcomes:1.Apply the process of science to the study of life.2. Explain the structure and function of organisms including molecules, cells, organs and systems.3. Students may be excluded from class for excessive absences (total number ofabsences exceeds twice the number of hours the class meets per week, i.e. 6 absences) or tardiness and forfailure to attend class the first day.If you are unable to attend class for valid reasons, you will be responsible for the informationpresented as well as obtaining any handouts or materials given out in class. If unable to continue comingto class, it is your responsibility to drop the course. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will notreceive attendance points for the day.Prompt laboratory attendance is mandatory. You will not receive full credit for the lab if youarrive after lab instruction has begun.Participation: Please arrive to class on time and stay the entire time. Students are expected to participatein lectures and discussions of material. Questions and discussions will help the whole class develop adeeper understanding of the course material. If you are absent or over 15 minutes late you will not receiveparticipation points. It is imperative that you participate with all of the members of your lab group inorder to complete all of the lab activities.
