Social Media in SocietyDarnesha BensonCOM 12617 February 2019
IntroductionThe influence of social media has been most noteworthy in the way it has transformed culture. Social media has reshaped the way people interact, shop, marketing, fashion, and day to day activities. It is emergent and exciting (Neal 2012) and has offered multiple benefits alongside its astonishing rate of growth. Today, society has become reliant on the resources social media now provides academically, for businesses, and in our personal lives. One of the greatest ways social media has created culture is the way in which it has impacted relationships. Relationships amongst peers has become heavily reliant on social media, mobile phones, and the internet. In our current society, it has been found that one out of every five minutes in a day is spent on the internet (Baran 2017).
Introduction(cont’d.)The internet and social media have become a large part in the culture of everyday life and have made the most impact on the lives of young children and adults. Seventy percent of all U.S. adults each have at least one social media account (Baran 2017). In this presentation, I will provide evidence to support my claim that social media has become vastly influential on today’s culture through its offering of many different types of platforms; The development of smartphones and ease of access to technology have spread the reach of social media to demographics of all backgrounds, and has quickly inserted itself as a vital tool in business and the personal lives of many users.
Statistics of Social MediaSince 2009, Social Media has surpassed email as most common/fastest growing platform (Baron 2017).There are 3.196 billion social media users worldwide (Chaffey 2019).
