Angel Orsini June 3, 2017 Week 2 Study Guide Questions (Development and Sensation/Perception) Development Through the Lifespan 1) What is Developmental Psychology? (Section 9.1 and Lecture Notes) Involves growth and changes in the body and brain, the senses, motor kills and health and wellness. 2) What are the three stages of the pre-natal developing organism? (Section 9.3) Germinal Stage, Embryonic Stage, Fetal Stage 3) What is a teratogen? Give one example as well. (Section 9.3) Is any environmental agent—biological, chemical, or physical—that causes damage to the developing embryo or fetus. Example- Smoking 4) What is Jean Piaget’s field of study? (Lecture Notes) He is the founder of Cognitive Developmental theory. He came up with 4 stages of cognitive development. 5) What are Piaget’s four stages of cognitive development? (Lecture Notes; Table 9.2) Just list the stages. Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete operational, Formal operational 6) Erik Erikson developed the theory of Psychosocial Development to explain how we change and grown emotionally and socially. What is his stage or “task” for adolescence and how do we typically accomplish this task? (Lecture Notes and Table 9.1) Identity v. Role Confusion We do this primarily by exploring interests, imitating role models, getting involved in social groups, and being around our friends. We try on new things and explore what it means to be uniquely us. If we aren’t able to explore and discover, Erikson believed we would stay in this confused state of identify crisis. 7) What was Kohlberg’s contribution to development? (He studied what?
