Essay 1 : Thesis: Social inequality exists in the United States due to the invisible class empire and an unequal distribution of the “four resources” but can be reduced via a policy that addresses campaign finance reform and politics as an education forum. I. Social inequality exists in the U.S. for two main reasons: the invisible class empire and an unequal distribution of the “four resources.” A. The invisible class empire, as defined by Perucci and Wysong, refers to the hidden structures and processes through which the superclass leaders penetrates and dominates the American political system (142). 1. 2. Shadow political industry: money of superclass political campaigns; superclass gains political power. 3. Information industry: profits to superclass owners. B. 4 resources = consumption, investment, skill and social capital 1. severity of unequal distribution seen when 4 resources converted into political, economic & social power (held almost entirely by upper and super classes) II. To reduce the social inequality in the U.S. a policy must be enforced that deals with campaign finance reform and politics as an education forum. A. Major campaign finance reform lower class voice in politics. 1. Only super class can finance political campaigns opinions heard. 2. making politicians responsible for financing own campaigns prevent superclass from being the only class heard B. Politics as an education forum 1. Lobbyists elected/appointed to support causes of lower classes
