Korematsu V. United States 323 U.S. 214 (1944) Facts of the Case: After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the US military feared another Japanese attack that possibly could be aided by Japanese Americans. To prevent a future attack President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which was an initiative to force Japanese Americans living in certain areas into internment camps in 1942. Fred Korematsu, a Japanese American citizen living in Oakland, California did not want to be interned, so he changed his name and had minor plastic surgery, claiming to be a Mexican American.
