Topic 5: Review project Version 2 1 © NSW DEC 2013 Project review as quality assurance A project review is a quality assurance mechanism that is conducted at the end of the project. The type of review undertaken depends on the nature of the project, for example, it may be a formal or informal review, or it could involve a process that is either lengthy or brief. Conducting a project review involves the following activities: Evaluation of the project processes and procedures applied during the project. Consultation with stakeholders regarding the evaluation. Review against the project performance measures and the organisational policy and procedures. Documentation and archiving results from review and evaluation of project processes, supplier performance and achievement against objectives. Review of customer satisfaction (user acceptance issues) and completion of all customer requirements. Follow up actions documented and actions taken to rectify any problems. Feedback and continuous improvement for future projects.
Topic 5: Review project Version 2 2 © NSW DEC 2013 The 5 phases in a project There are five general phases in a project: 1. Initiation. 2. Planning. 3. Organising. 4. Controlling. 5. Close. This reading takes a further close look at the close phase. Major activities that occur during each project phase are: Initiate Plan Organise Control Close Define the overall project goal Develop detailed task list Obtain necessary resources Lead and support the team Complete final deliverables Identify all stakeholders, their needs and expectations Estimate all task times and all costs Recruit necessary personnel Establish control tools and methods Write and issue final report, close the accounts, hand over project files Identify the project objectives Arrange best sequence of all tasks Organise and lead the project team Monitor the project plan and make any necessary corrective actions Release all resources Identify initial work and resources and basic milestones Develop workable schedule and identify critical milestones Assign all project tasks Assess and implement change Obtain stakeholder acceptance and signoff Identify all constraints, Write detailed Communicate with Prepare and distribute Evaluate the project
